A Day in the Life

I had a lovely day out yesterday. First stop was the farm shop to buy Fruit and Vegetables for Dinner. I bought some lovely things. Alfalfa (that word makes Mr Kitten laugh for some reason???), Coriander, Figs, Sweet Potato, a Mango, Blackberries, Raspberries and Grapes. Then I went in to a lovely Tearoom (the kind with real White Tablecloths on the Tables) for a Pot of Tea and a Cream and Jam scone. I had a look around a few 'Boutique' type shops (I didn't buy anything I was very restrained) I then had a leisurely drive back home through the pretty villages to where I live.....

And home for an afternoon of pottering in the kitchen with Billie Holliday and Ella Fitzgerald on the CD player. I had to start cooking dinner early as it needed a long slow cook of 3 hours. I prepared the Morroccan Lamb and put it in the slow oven of the AGA, it didnt need anything done to it for another hour so time for a Cheese Salad Sandwich. Lovely organic mature Cheddar, Vine Tomatoes, Cucumber, Salad Cream and Alfalfa in Wholemeal Bread. A glass of Jersey cow milk and some Grapes in front of the TV where I watched some of my favourite comedies from the 1970's, Porridge and The Good Life. Mr Kitten got back from work and it was time for tea. Spicy Morroccan Lamb with Cous Cous, and Roasted Vegetables of Courgettes, Sweet Potato, Butternut Squash and Cherry Tomatoes. Its not the best looking dish but the flavours of Onions, Garlic, Cumin, Coriander, Cinnamon, Apricots, Ground Almonds and Saffron with Lamb you could cut with a spoon was yummy. The juices scooped up with flat bread. Dessert was poached Figs in Orange and Rosewater Syrup with a touch of Cardoman and a dollop of Greek Yoghurt. We finished off the meal with Turkish Delight and Morrocan spiced Coffee which is milky Coffee with Cinnamon, Cumin, Black Pepper and Sugar. Then it was a fight for the Settee, because after all that we needed a lie down. I thought I was going to burst! I watched the soaps, read my Country Life magazine and drooled over some of the fabulous houses people have. Forced myself to get up to do the dishes and then off to bed. It was so hot I took the cool fan upstairs and fell asleep with the sensation of someone blowing cool air gently in my face.....What a lovely day!.....
