My Kitchen - Before & After

I thought you might like to have a look around my kitchen and see some before and after photographs. The kitchen was horrible when we moved in and I spent the first 6 months cooking on a hideous electric cooker and using a microwave. I couldnt wait for the builders to knock through the chimney breast so I could fit in the Aga and cook properly. The first few pictures are how it looks now.....

Once the Aga was fitted, Mr Kitten and his dad were able to fit in the units.....

Fitting the new kitchen took alot longer than it should as the delivery of the cupboards took weeks to arrive. They kept giving us delivery dates and then they wouldnt show up, or pieces would be damaged. In the end I couldnt put up with it any longer so I cancelled the rest of the order and put up shelving instead of more cupboards.....

And now for the before pictures..... Is this the most horrible kitchen you have ever seen?.....

The previous owner had this hideous fireplace where my AGA is now.....

Fitting my Aga turned into a nightmare. The builders knocked through to the neighbours house removing a huge stone. I was able to put my head through into their sitting room, you can see where they had to plaster it back up. The neighbour uses it as a holiday home so I put a note through the door explaining what happened and offering to pay for any damage etc. They didnt visit for a few months but they were very understanding considering it was the first time we had met them.....

YAY! The day the AGA went in.....

My gorgeous shiny baby!.....(I know Im very sad).....

We removed a doorway and blocked it in so I could have a full wall for shelving..... shown below.....

Now brace yourselves for the monstrosity Im about to show you.....

This was how the kitchen looked the day we moved in. Horrendous!..... And then.....

Getting there! The next panic after the AGA being fitted was the Granite work top, but no need to worry as the men who came to fit it did a lovely job..... Mr K was having a fit at how much it cost (did I realise he could have bought a decent car with the money we spent on the AGA and Granite??) Yes, but does he realise I would never have cooked for him again if I couldnt have had them!. And how it looks today. I would have liked a window above the sink, but this part of the kitchen is towards the back of the house, and as the house stands on a field the view would just be grass rising steeply up the field. Then there was the problem of creating a window. The walls are so thick it would have cost alot and the 'window salesman' more or less refused to do it. Instead we removed the window at the other end of the kitchen and replaced it with patio doors to give more light.....

If you are ever passing by, do pop in for a cup of tea. The kettle is always on!.....
